2016 VGMAs: Complete Voting Results Released

Finally, and for the first time, Vodafone Ghana and Charter House have made public the voting results of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards. Industry personnels, including pundits, critics and bloggers had been complaining and suggesting that the results be released after the annual awards show. The organizers have taken heed to this complaints and the right action in the appropriate direction has been taken. It’s quite necessary, because the votes make up 40% of the final decision of the winner.

Since the votes were presented in percentages, the total votes per each category should sum up to 100%.

There are a few issues I’d like to bring to light, concerning the results.

Not all categories were voted on, hence categories such as Songwriter of the Year, Producer of the Year and African Artiste of the Year, aren’t found in the list. The winners of those categories are chosen by the VGMA board.

All the 2016 VGMA award winners led the votes, meaning there was no point where the 60% power the board had was able to override the public decision.

Ofori Amponsah had no vote at all in both categories he was nominated. I’m tempted to think it’s an indication that people don’t like his decision of coming back to do secular music.

Stonebwoy in both categories he won led with a very high margin, so as Kinaata did with New Artiste of the Year category.

There are some few errors I’d like to point out however. The total percentage of votes for Hip-Hop song of the Year did not sum up to 100%, rather 99.55%.

Nothing was indicated for TeePhlow in the Best Music Video category.

Have a look at the voting results yourself, and leave your comments below…
